Watercress Chinese Detox Soup

My youngest, I recently learned is going through some issues similar to his sister. During the summertime, Ol develops a rash on the back of his thigh. At first, I thought the rash was due to the hot weather. The build-up of sweat. Unfortunately, in September, the rash had gotten worse. The weather was getting cooler, but the skin was not getting better. I suddenly realize he is developing food sensitivity like Char. Ol is a picky eater, who only seems to love milk and eggs.

Doctor Visit

My little one is a little more hard to reason with. I have my concerns. I address my worries to the Doctor. She said the skin had worsened due to the clothing that comes in contact with his skin. Fleece material is irritating to the skin. Dries out the skin. Those with eczema should only wear loose cotton nothing synthetic. Man-made materials do not allow the skin to breathe. And it irritates the skin.

Eliminate Stage

The first set of instructions from the Doctor is what I expected. The elimination stage. What I need to do is to eliminate dairy, eggs, gluten, and sugar. With dairy, I need to slowly introduce non-dairy milk and reduce the dairy. This allows him to slowly adjust and to eventually remove diary out of his system. Also, the naturopathic Doctor recommends watercress Chinese soup to help with his condition.

Watercress Chinese Detox Soup

Ingredients:

1-2 bunches of watercress

6-10 dried dates

300g – 500g pork ribs

3 tbsp. goji berries

6-10 cups of water(or more to cover the ingredients and fill half of the pot)

1-2 carrots

Instructions:

  1. Ina medium pot, fill water and allow it to boil. Blanch the bones. Let it boil for 5 minutes. Once boiled. Throw away the water.
  2. In a crockpot, fill with water. Add pork bones. Then, add the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Cook for 4-5 hours.
  4. Add salt for flavor.

Watercress chinese detox soup is well known in a Chinese household. This soup is flavorful. Watercress soup is good to consume after pregnancy just remember to add ginger as a confinement soup. It is important to regularly drink detox soup to help clear the body from toxin. Keep the body hydrated. Our body needs to regularly filter the body. I cannot rely on products from a jar or packet. Most of the time, the pre-mix items have either garlic, onion, or and sometimes two of the items. Now, my little one cannot have them. Some items on Char’s food sensitivity does not affect my cooking style since I hardly ever cook with them. However, I find it extremely difficult not including tomato or onion into my cooking. Tomato, I can use it to hide vegetable into time dish. And children love pizza and spaghetti. This is very challenging.

Home made meal

What I need to do is to prepare everything myself. No lazy days. Can’t rely on pre-mix sauce or frozen meals. I have to prepare ahead of time land be a better planner or be more organizer. I can spend some time to prepare homemade freezer meals. Maybe, I should focus more on freezer crockpot meals.

Alternative to prepare meals

Another approach, I believe is to apply a homemade rub on the chicken or meat. Then, add vegetable and other items to the dish.

Chicken Rub

Ingredients:

5 chicken thighs

rub:

1 tsp paprika powder

1 tsp dried thyme

3/4 salt

black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix chicken mix.
  2. Rub the spick all over the chicken.
  3. Let this sit for 1/2 hour.
  4. Turn on crockpot, place chicken in crockpot. Add water.
  5. Let chicken cook for 3 1/2 hour.

Natural items to help with eczema

Apple cider vinegar helps with eczema. Be careful, the acid from the vinegar can be too strong for the skin. To prevent this, reduce the acid level by mixing the vinegar with water. Human skin tends to be acidic. When the acid level of the skin is affected, the defense system is affected.

Colloidal oatmeal

This can be used in a warm bath. Allow the skin to soak in the water.

Coconut oil

The fatty acid in coconut oil is good for dry skin. What it does is to help to fight against inflammation by strengthening the protective layer.

How to use coconut oil:

It is most effective to apply on the affected area after a bath.

Honey

This item has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. What honey can be used for is to heal wounds. The sugary product is good to strengthen the immune system. Therefore, honey and lemon are wonderful for a sore throat or a cold. Honey can be used for burns.

What to do with this product:

This can be applied to area of the skin with eczema. This natural product will hydrate and protect skin from any infection.

What to beware of?

Need to be careful with soap for every day baths. Soap can be quite tough on the skin. Soap is alkaline while the skin has an acid base. It is best to use a more natural soap. Or, soap that is gentle on the skin or are fragrance-free. Avoid anything with harsh chemicals.

Things to do at home to help with eczema

  • Being dress too warm can irritate the skin allow loose clothing
  • Apply moisturizer like an oil on the area after a bath and apply a layer of Vaseline on top to trap moisture
  • Do consider omega 3 fatty acid supplements to help the hydration
  • eczema can be affected by food sensitivity you might try staying away food products like dairy, citrus, nuts, spice or tomatoes

Going not only Gluten-free, No egg, and No dairy

I recently took my daughter to a Naturopathic Doctor because the Allergist I saw didn’t help as much as I had hoped. Based on the result, my daughter didn’t react to any of the main items such as dairy, wheat, egg, and nut. However, she still reacts to something.

When I had suspected she was senstivitive to gluten, once I switch her to gluten-free her conditions would get better. Therefore I thought she had a gluten sensitivity. 

Recommendation

The Naturalpathic Doctor mentioned the highest food allergy is due to wheat, egg, and dairy. It would be best for Char to not eat the three items for three months. I know it would be challenging. The time I started on a gluten-free diet; it was extremely stressful. Now, I would need to eliminate three items. It would be tough. Hopefully, after I put Char on this strict diet, it would improve her condition. After the three weeks, the Doctor would be doing a blood draw to test her food sensitivity.
